How Often Should You Wash Your Sheets? (And How to Keep Them Soft Forever)

How Often Should You Wash Your Sheets? (And How to Keep Them Soft Forever)

Be honest: when did you last wash your sheets? If you had to think about it, you're not alone — and this post is for you.

The short answer: wash your sheets once a week. Bump it to every 3–4 days if you're a hot sleeper, share your bed with pets, or have been sick. Do that, and your bed stays fresh, and your sheets stay soft. So. Damn. Clean.

Why once a week?

You spend roughly a third of your life in bed. Every night, your sheets quietly collect sweat, body oils, skin cells, and whatever came in on your pet's paws. Add in dust mites, who love all of the above, and things add up fast.

We'll spare you the gross-out details. Just know that a weekly wash keeps your bed feeling crisp, smelling fresh, and a lot kinder to your skin and allergies.

How to wash your Benji sheets

Good news: our Signature Performance Fabric was made for real-life laundry. No hand-washing, no line-drying, no ironing. Here's the routine:

  1. Wash on warm with a mild detergent. Warm water lifts body oils without stressing the fibres.
  2. Give them room. Wash sheets on their own or with a light load so they can move freely and rinse clean.
  3. Skip the fabric softener. It coats the fibres, which can trap odours and make sheets feel less soft over time. Your performance fabric is already soft.
  4. Tumble dry on low. It dries fast, so you won't wait long.
  5. Pull them out promptly. Fold or put them straight back on the bed for a smooth, wrinkle-free finish.

3 mistakes that wreck good sheets

  • Too much detergent. More soap doesn't mean cleaner. Extra detergent leaves residue that dulls colour and makes sheets feel stiff. Follow the dose on the bottle.
  • Cranking the heat. High-heat drying is the fastest way to age any fabric. Low heat keeps fibres soft and colours rich.
  • Chlorine bleach. It weakens fibres and fades colour. For stains, spot-treat with a gentle stain remover before washing.

This is also where delicate fabrics like bamboo viscose get tricky: many need cold water, gentle cycles and line drying. Ours just needs a regular wash day.

The secret: a two-set rotation

The easiest way to stick to a weekly wash? Own two sets. One goes on the bed, one goes in the wash. No waiting on the dryer at 10 p.m., no stripping the bed and leaving it bare all day.

Rotating also spreads the wear between two sets, so both last longer. Pick two colours you love and switch up your bedroom's look every week.

Your bedding wash schedule

Sheets get the spotlight, but the rest of your bed needs love too. Screenshot this one:

Item How often
Sheets Every week
Pillowcases Every week (twice a week for acne-prone skin)
Duvet cover Every 1–2 weeks
Mattress protector Every 1–2 months
Pillows Every 3–6 months (check the care label)
Duvet insert 2–3 times a year
Bath towels After every 3–4 uses

Fresh sheets, every week

A clean bed is one of life's easiest luxuries. Wash weekly, go easy on the heat and soap, and keep a second set ready to go. Your sheets will stay soft, cool and clean for years.
